While our founder, Sean Tan, and Head of Commercial, Marcus Wong, were attending the Insect to Feed the World Conference 2022, our partners were on the other side of the world attending the Singapore Trade and Investment Mission in Sarawak, Malaysia.

This mission happened just before the public announcement of our strategic partnership with DesignFutures Ventures aimed toward sustainable food production and food security in Singapore and Sarawak.
It was an amazing opportunity for us to be part of the Singapore delegation invited by the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore (MTI) and Enterprise Singapore. The delegation of 37 Singaporean businessmen and government officials was led by the Permanent Secretary (Development) of the MTI Lee Chuan Tek to explore business opportunities in Sarawak.

Similar to Singapore, Sarawak is embarking on its sustainability agenda towards addressing concerns related to biodiversity conservation and natural resources management, as well as climate change mitigation and adaptation. This is especially important because Sarawak sustains some of the highest biodiversity and carbon storage in the world. Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg said this at the opening of the inaugural Malaysian Conservation Conference in March 2022. He further added that this is concurrently being done with the creation of an enabling environment with modern infrastructure in tandem with the country's Industry 4.0.

The Singapore Trade & Investment Mission to Sarawak
Singapore and Sarawak share a longstanding relationship, supported by Singapore's close people to people and business ties.
With Sarawak's Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, the objective of the delegation was to explore potential opportunities for Singapore to collaborate with Sarawak in various sectors including renewable energy, hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, carbon credit, digital economy, and data centers, port development, and agriculture.

During the mission, we had the chance to visit the production facilities and engage in business matching and networking organised with companies in Sarawak. We visited aquaculture players including Sea Horse Corp Sdn Bhd and Borneo Eco Fish Sdn Bhd. Visiting these industry players gave us deep insights into the demand for sustainable fish feed, especially with the increasing demand for high quality.

Mr Lee expressed interest to explore investment opportunities in food security among other areas. It was accentuated by both him and the Premier of Sarawak that Insect Feed Technologies is strategically positioned to support this agenda. This is done by bringing our technologies and research capabilities to enhance the state's food security.
We are definitely humbled by the confidence both states have entrusted us with. We are committed and will be continuing our work with our strategic partners in Sarawak to expand our insect production capabilities and contribute to both states’ food security and sustainability agendas.
